PRAYER AND FASTING
Church Strengthening and Church Building
ENGAGING IN 18 DAYS OF PRAYER AND FASTING
We are preparing for an exciting phase in the stewardship ministry and seeking divine guidance for the church building project. So, we are inviting everyone to join in an 18-day season of prayer and fasting.
This isn't about pressure or just raising funds. It involves coming together to seek the Lord, aligning hearts with His desires, and placing trust fully in Him.
-
Focus: Align hearts with God's will.
-
Duration: 18 days of prayer and fasting.
-
Purpose: Seek God's direction and provision.
“Unless the LORD builds the house, those who build it labor in vain.” - Psalm 127:1
Participation is all about grace and faith. It's voluntary, and there's no pressure.
For this year, church-wide prayer and fasting starts on Wednesday January 14, 2026 and will be celebrated on Sunday February 1, 2026.
1. WHY ARE WE FASTING?
We are fasting to:
-
Seek God's wisdom and timing. It's all about tuning into His guidance and understanding when to act.
-
Align hearts with His purposes. The goal is to be in sync with what He has planned for them.
-
Grow in faith, trust, and generosity. Fasting helps individuals deepen these essential qualities.
-
Pray for unity in the church. It's about coming together as one and supporting each other.
-
Depend on God for provision and direction. You are trusting Him to lead you where you need to go.
“So we fasted and implored our God for this, and He listened.” - Ezra 8:23
2. WHAT IS BIBLICAL FASTING?
Biblical fasting involves intentionally giving up food or other regular activities to concentrate more deeply on prayer, humility, repentance, and listening to God. It's not about earning God’s favor or replacing obedience and wisdom. Nor does it measure spiritual maturity. Instead, fasting:
-
Humbles you before God
-
Clarifies your priorities
-
Strengthens your dependence on Him
(Isaiah 58; Matthew 6:16–18)
3. WAYS TO PARTICIPATE (CHOOSE WHAT IS WISE FOR YOU)
Hey there! Everyone's encouraged to join in, but it's important to consider your own ability and health when deciding how to participate.
Here are some options you might consider:
Complete Fast: Abstaining from all food for a set time, drinking only water.
Partial Fast: Limiting certain meals or foods (for example, fasting from sunrise to sunset, or skipping one or two meals a day).
Daniel-style Fast: Based on Daniel 1 and 10; eating fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and water, while avoiding meat, sweets, and rich foods.
Food-Type Fast: Abstaining from specific foods or drinks, such as sugar, meat, caffeine, or sweets, while continuing normal meals otherwise.
Time Fast: Fasting during certain hours of the day (for example, a 6am–6pm fast) and eating outside that window.
Media / Activity Fast: Stepping away from social media, TV, gaming, or other distractions to focus more intentionally on prayer and God’s Word.
If you've got health concerns or a history with eating struggles, consider opting for a non-food fast. It's all about using wisdom and being obedient to what feels right for you.
4. USING THIS TIME WELL
-
Make sure to carve out time each day for prayer. It’s important to prioritize this in your schedule.
-
Follow the 18-day prayer outline. It’s a great way to stay focused and intentional.
-
Take your time with Scripture. Read it slowly and prayfully. You’ll find it more enriching that way.
-
Ask God, “How does God want individuals to trust Him more?” It’s a simple yet profound question.
-
Pray for faithfulness and for the future of the church. Both are crucial.

I surrender my life to you and everything I have and all that I am I offer to you …”

Scripture: Genesis 22:1–14 “Now it came about after these things, that God tested Abraham, and said to him, “Abraham!” And he said, “Here I am.” He said, “Take now your son, your only son, whom you love, Isaac, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I will tell you.” So Abraham rose early in the morning and saddled his donkey, and took two of his young men with him and Isaac his son; and he split wood for the burnt offering, and arose and went to the place of which God had told him. On the third day Abraham raised his eyes and saw the place from a distance. Abraham said to his young men, “Stay here with the donkey, and I and the lad will go over there; and we will worship and return to you.” Abraham took the wood of the burnt offering and laid it on Isaac his son, and he took in his hand the fire and the knife. So the two of them walked on together. Isaac spoke to Abraham his father and said, “My father!” And he said, “Here I am, my son.” And he said, “Behold, the fire and the wood, but where is the lamb for the burnt offering?” Abraham said, “God will provide for Himself the lamb for the burnt offering, my son.” So the two of them walked on together. Then they came to the place of which God had told him; and Abraham built the altar there and arranged the wood, and bound his son Isaac and laid him on the altar, on top of the wood. Abraham stretched out his hand and took the knife to slay his son. But the angel of the Lord called to him from heaven and said, “Abraham, Abraham!” And he said, “Here I am.” He said, “Do not stretch out your hand against the lad, and do nothing to him; for now I know that you fear God, since you have not withheld your son, your only son, from Me.” Then Abraham raised his eyes and looked, and behold, behind him a ram caught in the thicket by his horns; and Abraham went and took the ram and offered him up for a burnt offering in the place of his son.
